With the win, the Lady Busters move to 4-1 and have now won four straight matches.

"This is a good start compared to last year," head coach Nikola Petrovic. "We were 2-2 this time last year."

Garden City dominated the match early, only allowing 13 points in the first set. The second and third sets proved not to be as easy, but the Lady Busters came through, winning by five and seven to make quick work of Dodge City.

"I feel like, in a way, we dropped down to their level after the first game," Petrovic said. "But our hitters played really well. Our defense was good. Our setters were good. Honestly everyone was pretty equal."

Garden City's outside hitters provided a presence in front of the net that proved too much for Dodge City. Sophomore Shawna Ruiz came away with a double-double on the night, racking up 14 kills and 10 digs.

On the other side, sophomore Rachel Mrdeza was extremely consistent, converting 40 percent of her hitting attempts.

The convincing win gives the Lady Busters momentum going into one of the tougher tournaments on their schedule. On Saturday, the team travels to Borger, Texas, for the Frank Phillips College Labor Day Classic. The tournament will feature two top 25 teams in Frank Phillips and Barton County.

"Hopefully we'll come away with some wins," Petrovic said. "We'll have to see."
